A word of warning: some shops and technicians will wipe your hard drive and reinstall Windows as the first option to solve problems. Sometimes this can be necessary or advisable. But I will always explore other options first to save you the hassle of having to reinstall your programs.
In addition some shops and technicians will wipe your hard drive without backing up your photos and documents first. Occasionally it is not possible to make a backup (such as if the hard drive is broken), but this is the exception not the rule. I will always endeavour to backup and restore your precious photos, documents and settings if it is necessary to reinstall Windows.
If you hire another technician or shop to work on your PC, please ask to make sure they do not delete your photos and documents without attempting to back up first.
